this weekend.

we went to the country this weekend to see my mentor's friend alex sing with her band. first when we get there we go to buschanschank and drink some wine mixed with apple juice. mmm. buschanschank is a very traditional austrian thing and it is strange when americans show up so these austrians kept talking to us because they thought it was so neat we were there. they spoke some english and we managed to talk for a little. half english half german.
then we finally went to the place where alex was singing. as we are pulling up i hear her singing '99 luftballoons'. i was very happy. we get inside and i have never seen so many drunk teenagers in my life. it was really fun and i got free beer. her band also played country roads and dedicated to the 3 americans who were there(us). near the end a group of boys, who couldn't have been older than 16, came up and started hitting on me. one said i had a beautiful face and then asked me if i wanted a drink. it was quite funny.
we went back to alex's house and spent the night. the next morning we ate pancakes. she had brought them back from when she studied in minesota (sp?). then we walked to this cute little pizzaria and her parents bought us lunch and we ended it with a glass of styrian wine. after that we walked back to her house and her father let us drink the wine he makes at his house. he makes 1,000 bottles! we all drank 3 bottles of wine over a matter of hours and finally came back here. alex's niece was dressed in traditional austrian lederhosen. and her brother in law showed up in it too. but my picture got messed up.
it was a wonderful time.
and! they invited us to stay at their house in the mountain in the winter so we can go skiing.
